Margaret Sraku-Lartey, Principal Librarian at CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR-FORIG)

We are delighted to announce our second keynote for NISO Plus 2021 — Margaret Sraku-Lartey, Principal Librarian at CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR-FORIG)

Margaret has a passion for supporting local Indigenous People — for unearthing the knowledge that exists at the local indigenous level, and harnessing it within the information ecosystem to propel communities into higher realms of development. As a professional librarian, Margaret is concerned about the lack of clear guidelines in the management of indigenous knowledge. She is committed to working toward the provision of standard guidelines for the management of such local knowledge, which can only be achieved through collaboration between librarians, publishers, researchers, and policy-makers.

Margaret has been involved in several projects on information management that were funded by international agencies such as the Elsevier Foundation, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), and the International Union for Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO). Margaret has written and spoken widely on her work, and she currently lectures in Scientific Communication for graduate students at the CSIR College of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.

“We are so pleased to welcome Margaret Sraku-Lartey to keynote at the virtual NISO Plus 21 conference,” said NISO Executive Director, Todd Carpenter. “She will add a unique and valuable perspective to the conversation NISO is hosting. For far too long, voices from and the concerns of African countries have been marginalized; one NISO’s goals, moving forward, is to address these inequalities. Participants can look forward to an engaging and thought-provoking session that will expand their perspective on this key issue faced by our community.”

As a reminder, registration for NISO Plus 2021 is now open, and we encourage you to follow us here and on Twitter @NISOInfo for regular updates on the event.
