NISO Plus 2023 Highlights Asia Pacific Perspectives on the Information Community

Thanks to the APAC representatives on our global planning committee, we have a great program lined up for anyone based in the Asia Pacific region or interested in getting an Asia Pacific perspective on information community issues. We’re delighted to announce that Dr. Safiya Umoja Noble, Professor of Gender Studies and African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), will be the recipient of the 2023 Miles Conrad Award, NISO’s lifetime achievement award for those working in the information community. She will receive her award at our virtual award ceremony during next year’s NISO Plus conference (from 12.30pm ET on February 15, 2023), where she will also deliver the 2023 Miles Conrad Lecture. We are delighted to announce that, with the generous support of this year’s sponsors, Digital Science, applications are now open for the NISO Plus 2023 scholarship program.  Now in their fourth year, NISO Plus scholarships are intended for anyone who feels that their voice and views are currently under-represented in libraries, service providers/vendors, publishers, or other parts of the information ecosystem. Dr. Caleb Kibet Confirmed as Second Keynote Speaker at NISO Plus 2023

We are delighted to announce the second keynote speaker for  NISO Plus 2023 — Dr. Caleb Kibet of Pwani University, Kenya, will deliver his talk on February 16, at 9.30 am Eastern Time/5.30pm Eastern Africa Time. Caleb Kibet is a bioinformatics researcher, a lecturer, an open science advocate, and a mentor. He has a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Rhodes University, South Africa. In addition to teaching bioinformatics at Pwani University, Dr. Kibet is a PostDoc at icipe, The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology in Nairobi. We’re delighted to announce that Dr. Yuko Harayama, Professor Emeritus at Tohoku University, Japan will give the closing keynote at the NISO Plus 2023 conference. Her talk is scheduled for February 16, 9.00pm Eastern Time/ February 17, 11.00am Japan Standard Time. Dr. Harayama has had a long and distinguished career. She is currently the co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Japanese Association for the Advancement of Science (JAAS), and also serves as a researcher representative on the ORCID Board (through December 2022).
