What I Learned At NISO Plus 2021

We’re delighted to share these thoughts on NISO Plus by some of our scholarship winners, past and present. Collectively, they provide a great overview of this year’s conference! Nicoleta-Roxana Dinu, Librarian, National Library of Romania What a great opportunity to attend the NISO Plus Conference as one of the lucky scholarship winners of this year!  Using the online format and taking into account the time zone difference in building its schedule, the NISO Plus conference has been converted into a truly global event for information professionals. This was the first NISO conference that I attended so far (in the last …

Meet the NISO Plus 2021 Scholarship Winners!

As part of our commitment to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community, NISO actively seeks out opportunities to include those who are underrepresented or marginalized. Our scholarship program is a great example of this work in practice. Now in its second year, it enables us to include and amplify the voices of those who are otherwise often excluded, as well as to learn from their perspectives and ensure that they have opportunities for growth in our organization. We have loved working with our first cohort of NISO Plus scholarship recipients, many of whom are now deeply involved in …

If You Were A Standard, Which One Would You Be?

As part of the NISO Plus scholarship application process, we included this optional question: If you were an information standard, which one would you be and why?  (Hint, visit the standards page on the NISO website for inspiration!) To our delight, many of the applicants chose to respond, with a wonderful variety of answers. Amazingly, each of our scholarship winners chose a different standard to represent them — a nice reflection of the group’s diversity! We’re happy to share their answers here (anonymously) in hopes that you’ll enjoy them as much as we and our Scholarship Committee members did. 1)The …

Hailing from Baltimore to Brazil, they were selected from close to 60 applicants, based on why they wanted to attend the conference and what they hoped to get out of it. So, did it live up to their expectations? Here’s what they told us… First, we asked how attending NISO Plus helped them professionally, and a number of themes emerged in their answers: Networking — both with their fellow scholarship winners and more widely. To quote Kimberly Arleth …

Introducing the #NISOPlus20 Scholarship Awardees!

We are delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of the Alfred P Sloan Foundation and our Byte level sponsors, we have awarded 12 scholarships for the inaugural NISO Plus conference. There are two categories of scholarship — Early Career and Equity & Diversity — and we received a total of nearly 60 applications. With support from NISO staff, these were reviewed by a small committee comprising Rhonda Ross (ACS), Peter Simon (NewsBank Inc), and Miranda Walker (Wolters Kluwer) — all NISO Board members; and Simon Holt (Elsevier), Sara Rouhi (PLOS), and Stephanie Sendaula (Library Journal). Our thanks …
