We are pleased to announce that JATS-Con, the user conference for the NISO Z39.96-2024, Journal Article Tag Suite Standard, will return as a pre-conference day associated with the NISO Plus Baltimore meeting on February 15, 2027, at the Marriott Waterfront. As in 2026, presenters unable to join JATS-Con in Baltimore may participate virtually. (Please note that the main NISO Plus conference is an in-person event.)
JATS-Con is seeking papers relevant to the use or non-use of the JATS or an extension such as the Book Interchange Tag Suite (BITS), TaxPub, or the NISO Standards Tag Set (NISO STS). The following topics are suggestions only:
- The creation, presentation, manipulation, and/or storage of content tagged according to one of the models in the Tag Suite.
- Modification or customization of one of the models in the Tag Suite or creation of a new model using the Tag Suite.
- Location of the models in a workflow.
- Tools or resources developed or desired for working with content tagged using the Tag Suite.
- Desired enhancements to the Tag Suite.
Presentations will be 35 minutes long, in English, followed by 10 minutes of q&a and audience discussion.
Please submit your paper proposals via the submission form by December 4, 2026. The form provides information on full requirements for presenting at JATS-Con, including providing the paper in XML by January 30, 2026. As in the past, the JATS-Con Proceedings will be made open and publicly available following the conference.
We hope to hear from you! Remember to submit your idea(s) by December 4. (And if you’re planning on joining us in Baltimore, consider attending our two-day NISO Plus meeting! A program announcement is coming soon.)
