As you may remember, back in our May Information Organized newsletter, we confirmed the dates for next year’s NISO Plus conference, which will once again be fully virtual and will take place on February 15-17. In case you missed that announcement, we’re happy to share more information here as part of our week of posts about NISO Plus.

Why Virtual?

We were blown away by the increased participation in NISO Plus 2021 as a result of moving the conference fully online. With the help of our wonderful global planning committee, we were able to be much more global, diverse, inclusive, and accessible than we could ever hope to be in person. So while, as mentioned in yesterday’s post, we plan to start holding smaller in-person NISO Plus events once it’s safe to do so, the benefits of being able to engage with the global information community virtually are just too great to pass up on.

What Can You Expect?

As in previous years, NISO Plus 2022 will not be a “sage on the stage” event and is instead focused on discussions and outcomes. There will still be plenty of expert speakers, but most sessions will be a roughly equal mix of presentations and audience discussion. This, in turn, will help NISO prioritize our own future work, based on what you tell us is most important in your community. We will also be taking into account the feedback from this year’s conference about what worked well and, in some cases, what we can improve. So you can expect some changes—for the better!—for example, in terms of the virtual networking opportunities.

Who’s It For?

NISO Plus 2022 will, once again, welcome information professionals from around the world, from across all our stakeholder groups—librarians, content providers, service and infrastructure providers, and more—and from a wide range of functions: from metadata specialists to product managers, consultants to community managers, and beyond! We will once again be seeking sponsorship to help us keep the cost affordable for all, including those from lower-income countries, early career professionals, and others (more on sponsorship opportunities tomorrow!).

Who’s Involved?

We are lucky to have another wonderful group of volunteers to help us plan NISO Plus 2022. At the time of writing, this year’s Planning Committee is still being finalized—over 20 information professionals from all over the world have already agreed to participate. They include members of the NISO Plus Advisory Committee and our DEIA Committee, as well as current and former NISO Plus scholarship recipients, Board members, and more. We’ll be announcing the full group shortly, and the NISO team is very much looking forward to working with them all!

We’ll share more information, including registration details, in the coming months. But, for now, we hope you’ll plan to join us on February 15-17, 2021—please mark your calendars, and help us start spreading the word!
