In just over four months (February 15-17, 2022), we will be opening our virtual doors for the NISO Plus 2022 conference — and you can now reserve your place! We’re delighted to announce that registration is officially open and, thanks to our generous sponsors, we are once again able to keep the cost of attendance affordable for all. As well as the early bird discount (good through January 7, 2022), we are also offering discounted rates for members, for groups of five plus, and for students, unemployed, retirees, and those from lower-income countries.
NISO Plus 2021 was a great success in so many ways, with around 850 attendees from all over the world providing overwhelmingly positive feedback. But there are always lessons to be learned so, as well as keeping the elements that you told us you loved (the quality of the speakers! the interactivity! the discussions! the accessibility! the focus on outcomes!), we’re also taking steps to address your concerns. Most of these were systems-related, so for NISO Plus 2022 we will be reducing the number of platforms used, to simplify the user experience — more on this soon.
Continuing our commitment to making the conference accessible to all, next year’s conference will again take place in two blocks of time each day — in the Americas’ morning/Europe, Middle East & Africa afternoon and in the Americas’ evening/Asia Pacific morning to early afternoon. We’ll be balancing the content equitably across the time zones, with a mix of plenaries alongside three parallel sessions throughout the whole day.
Our fabulous Planning Committee is already hard at work, helping us make sure next year’s conference is the best yet, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more details about topics, speakers, sessions, etc. By way of a sneak preview, here are a few of the key themes the committee has identified as being of interest:
- Information and ethics
- Building a more diverse information technology workforce
- The tension between open and owned
- Multilingualism in scholarly communications
- Digital preservation
- Standards and taxonomies for indigenous knowledge
- And more!
Like this year’s conference, NISO Plus 2022 will be a mix of invited sessions and proposals, which will be reviewed by the Planning Committee, so please look out for our call for proposals in mid-October — we’d love to hear your ideas.
It may be hard to believe, but NISO Plus 2022 will be here before we know it. So please mark your calendars, follow us on Twitter and/or sign up for updates, snag your early bird registration, start thinking about your session proposal, and spread the word in your community. We’ll see you in February!
